Mercantilism-The theory and system of political economy prevailing in Europe after the decline of feudalism, based on national policies of accumulating bullion, establishing colonies and a merchant marine, and developing industry and mining to attain a favorable balance of trade.
Colonization-The act of colonizing, or the state of being colonized; the formation of a colony or colonies.
Colonial Government- The government of a colony, usually lead by a Governor and other administrators who are appointed by the ruler or government of the parent country.
Assimilation- The process through which one culture is absorbed into another
Representative Government- A form of government in which the citizens delegate authority to elected representatives
Rebellion- A fight against a government that is legally in power.
Responsible Government- Members of the Executive Council were chosen from the group of most elected members in the Legislative Assembly, If the Executive Council lost confidence of support of the majority of the Legislative Assembly, it had to resign. The government was resonsible to the Assembly.
Political Dead lock-When government decision cannot be made because opposing sides have equal power.
Political Change- change in government or laws that affect a group, ie. the right to vote being given to a group that did not have it.
